Strategic Focusing™ Programme

Key Goal Strategic Focusing® is a participative planning process, which achieves excellence in the execution of strategic plans by optimising employee engagement, commitment and accountability.
Participant Profile Whilst many corporate organisations have greatly benefitted from the Strategic Focusing process, we have found that Government organisations, international agencies and NGOs find this process particularly beneficial. Strategic Focusing initially involves the top team, and then large groups of line executives who need to execute the outcome. It is carried out at different levels of the organisation, proceeding to business unit level and ultimately down to department and team level.
Programme Length The timeline depends on the client need and depth of intervention, but average intervention is between 3-6 months.
Programme Structure The Strategic Focusing process is tailored to a company's needs following the pre-work phase. This first step involves interviews, evaluations and team profiling to identify the organisational challenges and opportunities from an internal and external dimension. It assesses team member interaction, performance and trust. The next phase, covering steps 2-9, is the retreat, which usually consists of a two-day Leadership Retreat led by an Oxford Leadership Academy Fellow and tailored to accommodate client needs following the outcome of the first step of the programme.

The impact of Strategic Focusing is even more powerful when it is combined with the Self Managing Leadership® programme. SML® allows for the personal development of the executive, enabling a more holistic appreciation of their assets, and how they can be best utilised in their personal and professional life.

Strategic Focusing Programme Benefits

Benefits to the individual On an individual level participants feel more engaged with their organisation, better aligned with strategy and genuinely feel they will be playing a valuable part in the future of the organisation.
Benefits to the organisation As the Strategic Focusing programme typically involves groups of individuals from an organisation, the benefits are most obvious on an organisational and team level. They include development of goals and strategies for optimising the engagement and accountability of all parts of the organisation in the execution of its strategic focus. Barriers to execution and leadership effectiveness are identified and plans put in place to overcome them. Strategic Focusing identifies the core values of the team and clarifies the principles that guide the behaviours of team members.
