Javier Prieto is a Vice President and Senior
Fellow of the Oxford Leadership Academy™, Mexico and a leading
global executive and active social player in both Mexico and the
Asia-Pacific region.
As Senior Vice President of External Affairs of the CEMEX Group,
Professor Prieto established himself as a key leader in the areas
of trade and commerce for more than 20 years. Javier was the
company's key representative to the Asia-Pacific Economic
Corporation's Business Advisory Council (ABAC), and until 2005 he
served as ABAC Chairman. He took an active role in defining
policy in the APEC Food System, which will support the continued
development of APEC markets.
Javier was appointed by President Calderon as a Labour
Undersecretary in 2006. Prior to that, he was Chief of Staff
for the Interior Secretary Mr. Carlos Abascal Carranza.
During his assignment he was responsible of the Cabinet committee
appointed by President Fox to lead relief efforts following the
Stan & Wilma hurricanes in 2005. Javier is an active member of
several community organizations and is the founder and President of
SELIDER, a national organization that promotes youth leadership in
Mexico and supports the development and civic participation of
young people.
Javier also created the "Leadership Desk Program" at Monterrey
Tech University. This programme involves workshops, seminars
and lectures which focus on the challenges facing new and old
leaders in business, politics and society. Javier is also an
active member of the Academy of The Global MBA Program, sponsored
by Monterrey Tech and Thunderbird University. Javier has
received an honorary doctorate from the Mexican Association of
International Law. In 1998, he was named Citizen of the Year
by The Rotary Foundation (North district in México). Javier
and his wife reside in Monterrey, México. Alongside his
active agenda, he speaks widely on motivation, competitiveness,
social responsibility and related subjects to business, government
leaders and social groups.
He wrote his first book, Piel de Líder (Leader skin) in 1998 and
later authored Merécetelo (Deserve It!). A new publication it
is under way this year.
