IDRIART Art and Business Conference

28 August 2009 – 30 August 2009

Miha Pogacnik, keynote speaker, concert violinist and cultural ambassador for Slovenia, will be leading a musical journey of discovery from August 28th to 30th at the Castle Borl in eastern Slovenia.

As president of the Institute for the Development of Intercultural Relations though the Arts (IDRIART), Miha has a special interest in combining art and business in a journey towards polyphonic European identity, and the setting for this year's workshop will be the the Castle Borl, which has mythical associations with Parsifal's quest for the Holy Grail.

Castle Borl

As Miha Pogacnik explains,

In this timeless, archetypal story we hear how Parsifal early in his life found the Grail Castle for the first time; better: the CASTLE found HIM, and because he didn't ask the question he was thrown out. Years of search, struggle and inner growth followed, and then he found the castle again and became the King of Grail.- So it is with our relationship to the principles of creative Arts. In 'indigenous' cultures there was no word for Art...because of her total presence in the wholeness of the societal organism. 'Progress' of the modern world has gradually marginalized Arts to entertainment. Now we have "working" life and "leisure" life. But, as crisis of meaning is mounting, we are learning to formulate questions about the true interdisciplinary, 'integrational' role of Art.

The journey will include performances by Miha Pogacnik, Violinist Diana Baker and symphony orchestra musicians.
